Brisbane residents are encouraged to help close the Indigenous health gap by donating sports equipment to a Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»­ drive this week.

Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»­ Sport is once again teaming up with Oxfam Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»­ for for the second annual Sports Equipment Drive on Thursday, March 25 by holding a sports equipment drive at the St Lucia campus.

Event organisers are asking people to bring new and used sports equipment, including footwear to the event. Close the Gap is Australia’s largest campaign to improve Indigenous health with items and funds collected will go directly to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children in North Queensland to support community athletic programs.

The event will feature Olympian and former Brisbane Bullets captain Leroy Loggins who will speak about the importance of supplying sports equipment to under privileged children.

Hundreds of events will be taking place all over the country to increase awareness about the 17-year life expectancy gap between Indigenous and non-Indigenous Australians.

During the event t-shirts will be sold for $15 along with one-dollar raffle tickets for prizes donated by the Brisbane Broncos, which include signed memorabilia.

Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»­â€™s National Close the Gap Day event will take place at Campbell Place from 10am to 2pm on March 25.

Also taking place on the day will be a at the Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»­ Medical School at Herston to illustrate pressing Indigenous health issues.

Donated sporting equipment can also be dropped of in foyer of the Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»­ Sport and Fitness Centre until Sunday March 28.
