Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³» of Queensland has won gold in the final round in Canberra, taking out the champion title.
Team Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³» defeated Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³» of Adelaide in the semi-final to guarantee their position as series title holders.
In the pool stages, Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³» beat University of Technology Sydney (14-12), Bond University (21-12), University of New England (17-10) and went down to Griffith University (22-0).
After winning the semi-final against Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³» of Adelaide 22-19, Team Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³» took on Griffith University in the , winning 21-14.
Team Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»’s captain Lori Cramer said the team had a lot of self-belief heading into the fourth round in Canberra.
“Coming into this round our main focus was this tournament, but obviously to take out both the series and the round made it so much more special,” she said.
“We have been building throughout the series and this round was the pinnacle as every team was expected to be at their best.
“Our final against Griffith was such a stand out, because you can’t beat a grand final where each team brings their best.
“This was my first Aon Series and I loved the opportunity to play for Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³», and I can’t wait for the series next year.”
Team Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³» finished on top of the ladder with 76 points, ahead of second place Griffith University on 68 points, and in third place was Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³» of Sydney with 62 points.
Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»’s leading try scorers in Canberra were Haj Mosby and Pleuni Kievit, who also led the weekend’s conversions with 10 successful conversions.
Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³» Head Coach Reg Tayler said that he was extremely proud of his team’s effort in the final round and over this year’s series.
“After our loss to Griffith on Sunday morning the team really refocused and turned it around to come out and secure the title against Adelaide and then go on to win the gold medal,” he said.
“The players had to deal with a lot of pressure and expectation, and they did that well and ended up coming out on top.
“A big thank you to the staff at Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³» including the physios, assistant coaches and Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³» Sport’s strength and conditioning team headed up by Sam Harrison and Joe Kirkpatrick.
“With this year’s team we have set ourselves up for success in the next few years and we are looking forward to next year’s series.”
