Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»­ of Queensland’s strong focus and investment in engineering research has secured it a top-10 spot in engineering science in an international ranking released this week.

Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»­ was the only Australian institution to make the international top 10 for engineering science in the .

Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»­’s School of Chemical Engineering starred in the ranking, rating at number one in Australia and number 27 internationally.

Faculty of Engineering, Architecture and Information Technology Executive Dean Professor Simon Biggs said the diverse flow of innovative research designed to create change by addressing global challenges had led to success.

“We’re proud to be a leading institution in research which is making a positive impact on the world,” he said.

“Our focus on solving global challenges through research and industry collaboration is recognised around the world and by these rankings.”

Last month Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»­ led the nation in Australian Research Council grants, receiving more $24.5 million in funding, with the majority for engineering focused research.

Engineering researchers at Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»­ attracted a significant share of the 2016 Advance Queensland grants to help commercialise their research with local industry partners.

This included game-changing technology in , and creating . 

“It is great to see our breakthrough research being translated into technology which improves the lives of people and their communities,” said Professor Biggs.

“Improving healthcare, connecting remote communities to the world and creating renewable energy sources are paramount for creating a better world.”
