Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³» of Queensland has defeated Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³» of Sydney in the grand final of the 20th International Maritime Law Arbitration Moot, marking Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»’s second consecutive world-title win.
Law students competed in a complex scenario involving a commercial shipping dispute in the five-day competition in Rotterdam, The Netherlands.
’s Tessa Boardman, Jonathan Hohl, Matt Singer and Mia Williams, and Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³» alumnus and coach Leo Rees-Murphy, beat 30 other teams to win the coveted title.
Head of School and Academic Dean Professor Patrick Parkinson congratulated the team for returning the championship trophy to Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³».
“This is a truly international and highly-competitive event, and our win marks another great mooting achievement for Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»,” Professor Parkinson said.
“To win in consecutive years is a great indication of our strength in and our global excellence in research.
“I would like to thank everyone who has contributed to our team’s impressive success, especially our students and volunteer coaches, whose extensive efforts and preparations have paid off.”
Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³» won a number of awards during the competition including best respondent memorandum, highest-ranked team in the general rounds, runner-up best overall written memorandum, best speaker in the finals, and best speaker in the grand final.
The competition is organised annually by the School of Law at Murdoch University in Perth.
Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³» , which attracted more than 200 law students from around the world.
